The governments of the Republic of Uganda and the Federal Republic of Germany signed one agreement on Technical and two agreements on Financial Cooperation with total project value of 114.6 m Euros on 30th May 2017.

Pamela Judith Angwech is the winner of the EU Human Rights Defenders' Award 2017. The annual European Union Human Rights Defenders Award is now in its sixth year. It is granted by the EU Member States, Norway and the EU Delegation in Uganda to recognise the achievements of Human Rights Defenders in Uganda.

"Sport offers hope", stated German Embassy's Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Ms Petra Kochendörfer, during the handover of sports material donated to the refugee camps in Adjumanii and Kiryandongo. The handover marked the round-up of the project "Sports and Refugees", implemented by the Department of Physical Education and Sports in the Ministry of Education and Sports and completely funded by the Foreign Office of Germany.

Promoting Trade Fair Destinations in Germany

Info Evening on German Trade Fairs

Germany is well known for its trade fairs and is hosting many of the biggest fairs in the world. The German Ambassador, Dr. Peter Blomeyer, invited Ugandan companies to present Germany as a trade fair destination that will open up access for Ugandan companies to the world market. The program of the event on 6th March gave an overview on the scope of trade fairs, also offering information about visa requirement etc.

Inspired by the touching movie “Queen of Katwe”, the German Embassy Kampala funded the SOM Chess Academy Children Seminar. It was organized by Robert Katende, founder of the SOM Chess Academy. He had invited 80 of the strongest young chess players from underprivileged backgrounds in Kampala and Gulu - another step on the way to transform their lives through chess.

Commissioning of new water plant in Ggaba

On 24th January 2017, His Excellency, The President of Republic of Uganda has commissioned the rehabilitated and extended Ggaba Water Treatment Complex in Kampala. This is the first main achievement of a bigger project named Kampala Water Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation – Phase 1 co-funded together with AFD, EIB, KFW, EU and the Government of Uganda for a total cost of Euros 212 Million.

To commemorate the signing of the Élysée Treaty on 22nd January 1963, Mrs. Stéphanie Rivoal, Ambassador of France to Uganda, and Dr. Peter Blomeyer, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Uganda, hosted a Peace & Reconciliation Award Ceremony and a Musical Brunch at the French Residence on Sunday.
