The German Embassy Kampala has supported the Hope for Katanga Kids project which enabled them to build new public toliets and a small computer room on their compound. They thanked the Embassy during a march past their offices. The German Ambassador participated in their Christmas Party and official opened the new facilities.

Germany and France promote Hydropower in Uganda

On December 9th 2016, German development bank KfW on behalf of the German Government and the French development bank AFD on behalf of the French Government both signed agreements with the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development for the construction of the Muzizi Hydropower Project.

When Rayka Kobiella was asked to direct KADS’ annual Christmas Pantomime "The Prince's Bride" this year, she didn’t hesitate one second to say: “Yes!” Rayka and her partner, the German artist Jonas Gerberding aka L.I.E.S., tayed in Kampala for almost two months. They met a lot of local artists. In no time the idea came up to hold a joint exhibition - the Free[ak] show -  with two events on 16th and 29th November 2016.

On 5th October 2016 Uganda and Germany successfully concluded government negotiations on the development cooperation program for the next two years. Germany committed a total of 93.5m EUR in grants.

German Day of Unity 2016 celebration

Germany’s National Day, the Day of German Unity, was celebrated for the 26th time on 3rd October all over Germany. In Kampala, too, the day was commemorated as hundreds of guests poured through the gates of the German Residence on Monday evening, to attend the reception on the occasion of the day.

St. Andrea Kaahwa Kooki Community Hospital opened

Kooki Community Hospital Opening

The remote community of Kooki in Kibaale District is proud to have a new hospital, the St. Andrea Kaahwa Kooki Community Hospital, which was opened on 30th July 2016. The hospital was built by the Ugandan NGO Torudes (Together Rural Development Solidarity) in close cooperation and with the support of their German partner NGO “Together” (Tohifu – Together Hilfe für Uganda) from Kassel as well as a substantial contribution of the German Government. The Ugandan Ministry of Health is going to provide for medical staff and medication.

A new fire truck for Kayunga District

The twinning arrangement between the town of Kayunga and the German Municipality of Witzenhausen is a strong symbol of the longstanding relationship of Uganda and Germany – not only on government level but also and very importantly between local communities, non-government institutions and private initiatives. On Tuesday a fire truck and rescue equipment, funded by the German Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development and by many private donations from people in the German town of Witzenhausen, were handed over to the Kayunga fire brigade.
