Viva Con Agua Uganda and Welthungerhilfe in collaboration with German Embassy organized a media trip to Moroto district in Uganda from 23rd to 26th November 2015. Deputy Head of the German Embassy in Uganda, Ms Petra Kochendörfer, attended the opening ceremony on Monday, 30th of November.

That music is indeed an important feature of man was successfully demonstrated at the Residence of the German Ambassador: A Marimba concert by the renowned German percussionist Babette Haag embedded in a themed exhibition celebrated the role of music and treated the audience to a memorable experience.

The Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, visited Uganda during his four-country tour to Southern and Eastern Africa. He travelled with members of the German parliament, a business and a cultural delegation. Among others, Dr. Steinmeier met the President, the Foreign Minister and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda. He talked to members of the civil society and the opposition. A contract with a German company was signed, students at Makerere University addressed.

Co-operation between BKA and UPF

Handing over new equipment

Deputy Head of Mission, Ms Petra Kochendörfer, and Mr Steffen Russ, Head of International Support from BKA Berlin, officially handed over equipment to the Uganda Police Force at the Police HQ Kampala last Tuesday, 27th October. The equipment will support the training of police officers as well as the criminal police investigation work of UPF. Present at the function was also Mr Rainer Harms from the BKA Nairobi office.

The German Embassy Kampala supported the international fieldschool on “Water governance and Interdisciplinary Research Techniques in Post-Conflicts-Areas” for African and German postgraduate students in Uganda: Dr Peter Blomeyer gave an opening speech during a symposium at Makerere University Kampala. He also invited all participants to a reception at his residence, to mark the successful end of the fieldschool.

DAAD in-country scholarships and AUGA Annual General Meeting

On Thursday, 15th October, DAAD awarded more than 50 students with in-country scholarships for Master´s and doctorate programmes at Makerere and Mbarara university during a cocktail reception. The German Ambassador Dr Peter Blomeyer addressed the scholars and congratulated them on their achievement. Also, he appreciated the work DAAD is doing.

The possible negative impacts of oil production on the highly vulnerable eco-systems of the Albertine Graben, which is affected by adverse effects of climate change, were discussed during a high level breakfast meeting with panel discussion on 13th Oct 2015 at Serena Conference Center. The event, organized by the German Embassy in collaboration with the Economic Policy Research Center, brought together stakeholders of a broad range: CBOs, NGOs, Oil Sector, Development Partners, Ministries and ministries’ agencies.

Kampala had an Oktoberfest this year! There was beer, sausages, pretzels and entertainment on Saturday, 3rd October, the German National Day (Day of Unity). The German Ambassador, Dr Peter Blomeyer, was the Guest of Honour. He tapped the first barrel, initiating a pleasant afternoon and evening with plenty of guests enjoying the relaxed Oktoberfest mood.

25 years of German Unity

Germany celebrated the 25th anniversary of her reunification on 3rd October. In Kampala, the German Ambassador held a reception commemorating the anniversary at his residence two days earlier, on 1st October 2015. It was a big event that focused on reminding the guests of the gruesome time of separation and the brutality of the Berlin wall. The guests were impressed by the imitation of the Berlin wall, enjoyed great music performances, food and drinks, and celebrated well into the night.
