What happened in 2014? The Embassy received a lot of visitors, was represented at many events. Germany won the Football World Cup Title! Ambassador Klaus Dieter Düxmann retired from office and Dr Peter Blomeyer became the new German Ambassador in September. The celebration of the Day of German Unity at the Residence was a big success. Embassy supports annual Watoto Wasoka Football Camp 2014

The Watoto Wasoka Football Camp 2014 was the 3rd and biggest of its kind and took place over the turn of the years. Joachim Düster, the Embassy's Chargé d'affaires, and Jasper Aligawesa, Secretary General of the National Council of Sports, joined Francis Mugoya and other officials of Watoto Wasoka Foundation at the opening of the tournament. The embassy had donated footballs to the Foundation.

On 18th of December 2014, the German Ambassador attended the opening of Katanga’s 4th annual art exhibition “Flames of Katanga” as the chief guest. The exhibiton initiated by the young German artist Judith Torka among other is a presentation of pictorial stories capturing day to day life in Katanga, an informal, slum-like settlement in the heart of Kampala.

Uganda's "Prevention and Prohibition of Torture Act 2012" which came into force on 18 September 2012 is a legal milestone in the fight against torture and cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment. To promote and to implement it, the Ugandan Human Rights Commission (UHRC), the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT), the African Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (ACTV) and other partners developed a road map and came together on 18 December 2014 to assess its progress.

The Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Hon. Maria Kiwanuka, and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Uganda, Dr. Peter Blomeyer, have signed a second financial cooperation agreement which formalizes the results of the bilateral government for the period of 2013 to 2015.

The German Ambassador welcomed representatives from the sectors of Development Cooperation, Finance and Economy to a musical reception on 10th December in order to celebrate 50 years of Ugandan-German Development Cooperation. Several Ugandan artists were invited to the occasion. BeBe Cool and Jamal were among the musicians who performed live on stage that evening.

The German Embassy, GiZ and KfW celebrated 50 years of Ugandan-German Development Cooperation at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala yesterday. Agreements on financial and technical cooperation between the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and the German Government were signed during the function. In a lively panel discussion several distinguished guests conferred on the topic “Aid or trade – what is the way ahead for Uganda”.
